Los Angeles CicLAvia on Vimeo: Another Look at Sunday's Event

CicLAvia, Let’s Go! from Streetfilms on Vimeo.

BIKE NOPA readers who include a daily stop at Streetsblog for more features about livability in San Francisco and the Bay Area already noticed this great new video of last Sunday's street celebration, CicLAvia. (The CicLAvia site has even more videos). Everyone else: take a look at what had LA buzzing far more than the Blue Angels over San Francisco. The Los Angeles Times estimated 100,000 people took to the streets on foot and skateboards, with strollers, and riding bikes. Great stretches of the city came together in a completely new way. Enjoy the latest production of Streetsfilms.

Note to Readers: BIKE NOPA is taking a light week. Perhaps it's the summer that almost never appeared. But I'm also working on more in-depth stories for the weeks ahead.

Streetsfilms Captures Bike to Work Day

Relive some of the fun or get an extended look at what caused all the street buzz yesterday during the 2010 Bike to Work Day. Congratulations to all the first-time cyclists who chose to get to the job by bike yesterday. A salute to film producers John Hamilton and Bryan Goebel!

If you haven't dropped in on Streetsfilms before, be sure to check out this visual treasure trove. There's an incredible mix of stories from all over the country about new ways to use our public spaces. Additional print-and-pics coverage of the big day in San Francisco here and throughout the Bay Area here.

Sunday Streets: Be Part of the Buzz

First Sunday Streets in 2010 on the Embarcadero

It's not all about bikes, but they're part of the fun

Rock the Bike at 2009 Great Highway Sunday Streets

Testimonial: For me, San Francisco's Sunday Streets are too much fun to not be part of the action. Last year I volunteered for the outdoor celebrations in the Mission and along the Waterfront, and the experience gave me an insiders' view of San Franciscans enjoying their city streets. Even more, I felt the rush of helping make history as our city joined the international push to open streets to walkers, bicyclists, musicians, people-watchers, skaters, artists, and everyone out for a good day with friends and neighbors. I'm already signed up to help with this year's Sunday Streets, and I urge you to do the same. You've got lots of choices for dates and locations, but be sure to save Sunday, September 19th when Sunday Streets comes to NOPA and the Western Addition.

Each Sunday Street event relies on up to 250 volunteers. With two big days coming up in April, NOPA neighbors (and anyone else in the city) are needed to ... be part of something big and have a great time. Volunteers are always appreciated and Sunday Streets lets you know how much. For each easy 3 hour shift you'll get:
  • free lunch from a great local restaurant or caterer
  • a cool Sunday Streets T-shirt
  • a reusable goody bag filled with volunteers-only giveaways
  • invitations to special volunteer parties and events
Easy and quick to sign-up below for April's Sunday Streets:
